In linguistics, a holonym is a word that has a part-of relationship with a set of other words known as meronyms. Called holonymy, this relationship connects a term representing the whole (the holonym) to its parts (the meronyms).

In other words:

Y is a holonym of X if every X is a part of Y.

An example of holonymy is a house. If house is the holonym, then its meronyms would include: windows, doors, walls, rooms,  etc.
